Learn How To Stencil Canvas Art Using Wall Stencils

Today we’re sharing a stencil tutorial on how you can make simple stenciled DIY wall art to decorate an otherwise boring wall!
We’d like you to welcome back Stacey, the decor enthusiast and awesome DIYer behind the blog Addison Meadows Lane. She decided to create a piece of wall art for her entryway. Stacey had this old piece of art laying around in her garage but it didn’t fit her current decor. Here is what the piece looked like:
Rather than spend a fortune on a new piece of wall art, Stacey decided to makeover the old art. First she painted the old canvas using Dutch Boy’s White. Then she taped off the canvas and painted the frame using Dutch Boy’s Robin’s Egg Blue. Once the paint was dry, she was ready to stencil. Stacey browsed our website and fell in love with the Tea House Trellis Allover Stencil, a beautiful trellis wall pattern.
She used blue painter’s tape to hold the stencil in place and a stencil brush to paint the pattern. She painted it in the same light duck egg blue that she had used for the frame. Stacey commented , “All you have to do is tape the stencil on and paint it. ”
After the stencil was dry, Stacey roughed up the edges of the frame to give it a distressed look. Are you ready to see how her simple DIY project turned out? Here it is!
Stacey placed her work of art in her decorated entryway. She commented, “So easy right? I stretched the stencil design out so more white would be on the canvas. It turned out perfect! I just love it! ”
